On Monday, September 16, 2024, Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, officially launched the One Nigeria Unity Fabric in a ceremony held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The fabric, symbolizing national unity, is to be worn at all major national events, beginning with Nigeria’s upcoming Independence Day celebration.

In a tweet marking the occasion, Mrs. Tinubu expressed her joy, stating,

"Today, as we unveil the #OneNigeriaUnityFabric, my heart is full of joy. This fabric represents our nation's unity and was inspired by my visit to Zimbabwe in 2023, where I saw a similar initiative."

She revealed that the idea was brought to life through the Renewed Hope Initiative, which she introduced after her Zimbabwean trip.

The fabric was designed by Miss Bamidele Mofiyinfoluwa, a young Nigerian creative, whose work embodies Nigeria’s rich cultural diversity.

Mrs. Tinubu further emphasized that the project would contribute to supporting local textile industries and create employment opportunities.

“This project will support local textile industries, create jobs, and celebrate Nigeria's strength as one united nation,” she said.

The initiative has been widely praised for its potential to foster unity and provide a platform for showcasing Nigeria's cultural richness.
