
Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed Solomon Arase from his position as chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).
In a statement released by the Presidency on Monday night, Tinubu appointed retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hashimu Argungu as his replacement.
Additionally, the President has appointed Chief Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary and retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu as a member of the Commission. These appointments are pending Senate confirmation.
Further appointments to the Police Service Commission will be made in due course.
The President has also appointed Mr. Mohammed Sheidu as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), effective immediately.
The statement, signed by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, noted that "The President expects absolute demonstration of integrity, diligence, and patriotic zeal in the discharge of these important functions for the overall wellbeing of the Nigeria Police and the nation."
Arase was appointed Chairman of the Police Service Commission in January 2023 by former president Muhammadu Buhari. He also served as the 18th Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police (IGP) following the dismissal of Suleiman Abba.
Prior to his appointment as IGP, Arase led the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, the top intelligence unit of the Nigerian police.
