The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly defended his decision to serve in President Bola Tinubu's administration, despite criticisms from members of his own party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). During the PDP Congress in Rivers State, Wike addressed the controversy surrounding his appointment, making it clear that he has no regrets.
Wike, a prominent PDP figure and the only opposition member in Tinubu’s cabinet, dismissed the backlash as inconsequential.
He stated, “We are fully in government. We are fully in Tinubu’s government. I have no regret about it and I will continue to be there. Anybody who is angry should go and hug the transformer.”
His remarks follow speculations that his ministerial role was a reward for allegedly undermining the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. However, Wike remains firm, expressing satisfaction with his position in Tinubu’s government.
This development has intensified the ongoing political tension within the PDP, as the party grapples with internal divisions and the challenge of working with an administration led by their primary rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike also took the opportunity to criticize Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, his estranged godson, and other PDP governors who recently showed support for Fubara.
He warned that their attempts to undermine him would backfire, promising to "put fire" in their states if they continued their actions.
