Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze appears poised to leave AC Milan in the upcoming January transfer window, as reports suggest that the winger is attracting interest from several clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Premier League rivals West Ham and Aston Villa.Chukwueze joined AC Milan from Villarreal during the summer of 2023 in a deal reportedly worth €20 million, along with significant bonuses. This transfer made him the most expensive signing during a window in which Milan brought in a total of 10 players. However, since arriving at the San Siro, the Nigerian international has struggled to find his footing and replicate the impressive form that characterized his five-year tenure with Villarreal. In his time at Milan, Chukwueze has made just 39 appearances, contributing three goals and as many assists. His playing time has been limited, accumulating only 175 minutes out of a possible 540 across six Serie A matches.Milan's manager, Paulo Fonseca, recently addressed Chukwueze's situation in a press conference, acknowledging that the player has not found his place in the squad. “He had a very good preseason when he had space against big teams. However, since the start of the season against teams like Torino and Lazio, I think Chukwueze has not performed as well as he did in preseason,” Fonseca remarked. He emphasized that the issue lies not in Chukwueze’s quality but rather in his confidence, stating, “He needs to gain confidence and play in this context. In Serie A, he has no space; he has to make movements at the right time.”Following these comments, the Italian website Les-transferts suggested that Chukwueze might be heading back to Spain, with Atletico Madrid showing interest in acquiring his services. “Samuel Chukwueze could leave AC Milan to head to Spain during the next winter transfer window,” they reported. With his contract running until June 2028, the 25-year-old right winger has the potential to make a significant move in January. According to sources from Fichajes, Atletico Madrid is keen on bringing him back to La Liga. Additionally, Chukwueze’s market value is estimated at €20 million, making him a viable option for clubs like West Ham and Aston Villa as well.
