Thugs Cart Away Ganduje’s Corruption Trial Documents – Kano Govt
In a shocking turn of events following the recent nationwide protests, thugs attacked the Kano State High Court and looted critical documents related to the corruption trial of former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, confirmed the attack and assessed the damages alongside judiciary officials.
Governor Yusuf visited the High Court to witness the aftermath of the assault that took place amidst violent protests in Kano. Accompanied by the Attorney General, Haruna Isah Dederi, and Chief Registrar, Abdullahi Ado Bayero, among others, the governor described the incident as a deliberate attempt to disrupt justice. "This was a stage-managed mission," he said, "aimed at derailing the ongoing corruption cases against Ganduje, who currently serves as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC)."
The vandals wreaked havoc across several units within the court, including the office of the state Chief Judge, causing damages estimated at over one billion naira. In addition to destroying office spaces and equipment, the attackers set fire to vehicles and other materials critical for court operations. The governor condemned the act as a move by "enemies of Kano State" to undermine the legal process against Dr. Ganduje, his family, and aides.
Governor Yusuf appealed to the youth of Kano to steer clear of violence and focus on skill development for their future. "I urge our youth to resist being used as tools for violence. The future is in your hands," he emphasized. The governor also assured the public of his commitment to safeguarding the judiciary, describing it as the "last hope of the common man."
In response to the incident, Governor Yusuf directed the swift rehabilitation of the court building and the implementation of enhanced security measures. "We will not relent in securing the lives and property of the people of Kano State," he declared. The governor also offered his sympathies to the Chief Judge, Dije Abdu Aboki, and the judiciary, encouraging them to stay resilient in their pursuit of justice.
Concluding his statement, Governor Yusuf thanked the people of Kano for their support and cooperation with his administration. He prayed for peace, stability, and economic development in the state, urging the populace to continue their collaboration for a better Kano.
The attack on the Kano State High Court is a significant blow to the fight against corruption and the administration of justice. As investigations continue, the people of Kano, and indeed Nigeria, watch closely to see how the situation unfolds and the measures taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
