Kafayat Ajoke, a housewife from Ilorin, has petitioned the court to end her marriage to Aminullahi Ibrahim, citing his failure to provide for their family's basic needs.
Appearing in court on Friday, she requested that the judge grant her a divorce and award her custody of their two children.
Additionally, she seeks a monthly maintenance and feeding allowance of N100,000 from her estranged husband.
She said ...
"I noticed that my husband changed after he lost his job one year ago. He does not provide enough money for food for the family".
In his response to the divorce petition, Aminullahi Ibrahim consented to the dissolution of their marriage but disputed the amount of maintenance and feeding allowance requested by his wife.
He stated that, due to his current unemployment, he is only capable of paying N2,000 monthly for the upkeep of his family, a significantly lower amount than the N100,000 requested by Kafayat Ajoke.
Mr Ibrahim told the court ...
"I don't have a job, so I don't have money. This is the main reason my wife wants a divorce."
Judge Idris Etsu, having heard the testimonies and arguments presented by both Kafayat Ajoke and Aminullahi Ibrahim, deferred the case until July 30 for the delivery of his judgment.
