In a shocking turn of events, Adejumo Wasiu, also known as Bombler, the leader of the Eiye Confraternity in Ijoko, Ogun State, has confessed to ordering the killing of a rival cultist, Segun, a.k.a. Adisa. Wasiu explained that the act was in retaliation for his father’s murder, allegedly orchestrated by Adisa and other members of the Aye Confraternity.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed Wasiu’s involvement through SP Omolola Odutola, who revealed that Wasiu had been arrested by the Anti-Cultism Squad following a series of killings linked to rival cult groups across the state. Investigations pointed to Wasiu as the mastermind behind Adisa's murder in May 2023, a crime committed while he was out on bail for another cultism related case.
In an interview, Wasiu opened up about his life, involvement in cultism, and the circumstances that led him to take such drastic actions.
Wasiu, a 37 year old man originally from Abeokuta, described his humble beginnings as a seller of second hand clothes and shoes. He moved from Ifo to Igboora in Oyo State, where he went into hiding after learning that he was wanted for Adisa’s murder. His journey into cultism began in 2003, and over the years, he rose to become the number 1 in the Eiye Confraternity in Ijoko.
Wasiu’s troubles began earlier in 2023 when he was stopped by police on his way to Sango. After a search of his phone, they discovered archived WhatsApp messages that linked him to the Eiye Confraternity. He confessed to being a former member but claimed he had distanced himself from the group. Despite this, he was charged with cultism, bailed, and attended three court hearings. However, when he learned that he was about to be rearrested for murder, he fled to Igboora.
According to Wasiu, the murder of Adisa was a calculated revenge for his father’s death. On Ileya celebration day, Adisa, along with two other Aye cultists, allegedly killed Wasiu’s father. When Wasiu's second-in-command informed him of Adisa's whereabouts, Wasiu ordered his subordinates to kill Adisa in retaliation.
I had to take revenge, Wasiu confessed. It was Adisa, Olamilekan, and Fatai who came to our house and killed my father.
Despite being on the run, Wasiu was eventually arrested due to an unexpected betrayal. While in hiding, he had a falling out with his girlfriend from Ifo after she discovered that his new girlfriend in Igboora was pregnant. The Ifo girlfriend, in a bid for revenge, teamed up with the police and Wasiu’s surety. She led them to Wasiu’s hideout under the pretense of reconciliation, but instead, he was apprehended.
Wasiu also admitted to being involved in other killings before his first imprisonment in 2017. He recounted how he and other Eiye members participated in a deadly rivalry with the Aye Confraternity, which escalated due to their association with opposing traditional rulers during a local conflict in Ijoko.
Wasiu’s journey into cultism began when he was introduced and initiated by his elder brother Usman, who has since passed away. Wasiu shared that he was initiated into the Eiye Confraternity in 2003 at a polytechnic in Kwara State. His initiation involved brutal beatings and drinking alcohol, marking the beginning of a life that would be dominated by violence and cult rivalry.
We use cutlasses and guns during fights with rivals,Wasiu said, explaining that as the number 1, he held the cult's constitution, while his second in command acted as the armourer, responsible for their weapons.
Wasiu's confession sheds light on the grim reality of cultism in Nigeria, where young men are drawn into violent groups, often leading to a cycle of revenge, bloodshed, and death. His story is a cautionary tale of how personal vendettas and the influence of cults can lead to irreversible consequences.
Now facing multiple charges, including murder, Wasiu’s life of crime and violence has caught up with him. His arrest serves as a stark reminder of the destructive power of cultism and the lives it claims on a regular basis.
As investigations continue, the authorities in Ogun State are working to bring all those involved in these heinous crimes to justice, hoping to put an end to the senseless violence that has plagued the region for far too long.
