In a significant event celebrating academic excellence and alumni achievements, the University of Ilorin (Unilorin) Alumni Association honored 16 of its best graduating students alongside 23 distinguished alumni at its maiden award and honors ceremony. The event not only recognized academic success but also emphasized the importance of giving back to the institution that shaped their careers.
The highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of 16 top graduates who achieved first-class honors. This accolade serves as a testament to the academic rigor and dedication of the students, who now stand as proud ambassadors of Unilorin. Their achievements underscore the university’s commitment to producing outstanding graduates capable of excelling in their respective fields.
In addition to the graduating students, 23 prominent alumni were also celebrated for their contributions to society and their professional accomplishments. Among the honorees were Gboyega Rasaq Akoshile, the Special Assistant on Media to the Lagos State Governor, and Professor Wahab Egbewole, the current Vice Chancellor of the university.
Speaking at the event, the national president of the Unilorin Alumni Association, Professor Abdulrazaq Kilani, commended the alumni for their impact on society. He reminded them that their achievements are a source of pride for Unilorin, and it is now time to give back to their alma mater.
We are honoring some of our valued alumni today because of their contributions to society with a view to reminding them that Unilorin is proud of their accomplishments. Unilorin is monitoring your progress and the giant strides you are making, and to remind you that it is time to give back to our alma mater as valued alumni, Professor Kilani stated.
As part of the alumni association’s efforts to support the university, Kilani announced several upcoming projects. These include the remodeling of the alumni secretariat, the construction of a male hostel to complement existing facilities, and the development of an alumni guest house. These initiatives aim to enhance the infrastructure and overall experience for both students and visitors to the university.
During the event, Akoshile urged the graduating students to capitalize on the digital skills they acquired during their time at Unilorin. He emphasized that the technological advancements of today provide them with a significant edge compared to previous generations.
They are more intelligent than us because we weathered our own era with analogue intelligence, but the graduating students were opportune to face it with digital and computerized technologies. They have no excuse not to excel in life, Akoshile remarked.
He further pledged his continued support for the university, acknowledging the pivotal role Unilorin played in shaping his career.
Vice Chancellor Professor Wahab Egbewole echoed the sentiments of giving back, encouraging the honored alumni and recent graduates to seize the best opportunities available in their respective fields. He highlighted the importance of their contributions in ensuring the continued growth and success of the university.
The Unilorin Alumni Association’s maiden award and honors ceremony not only celebrated the accomplishments of students and alumni but also reinforced the enduring connection between graduates and their alma mater.
