The recent operations by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in Nigeria mark significant strides in tackling both terrorism and oil theft. A key success was the capture of Usman Maisaje, a notorious terrorist leader linked to Kachalla Boka. His arrest, along with 226 suspected terrorists, is seen as a breakthrough, with Maisaje providing crucial intelligence aiding ongoing military operations. Nigerian troops reportedly eliminated 96 terrorists in these efforts.
In addition to the fight against terrorism, the military is making headway in curbing oil theft. Over 60 illegal refining sites were destroyed, and 45 suspected oil thieves were apprehended. The troops also recovered more than 712,535 litres of stolen crude oil and 76,800 litres of illegally refined diesel (AGO), estimated at a value of about N712 million.
Furthermore, 157 kidnap victims were rescued, and an arsenal of weapons, including 50 AK-47 rifles, was confiscated during the operations. These developments highlight the Nigerian military’s active commitment to securing the country from criminal activities and maintaining its safety.
