The Church of the Brethren (EYN), Moduganari, was struck by tragedy on Sunday when Pastor Rev. Alaku Vincent collapsed and died during a child dedication ceremony.
Witnesses reported that the pastor was in the midst of delivering his sermon when he suddenly slumped and lost consciousness.
Despite immediate efforts by congregants to revive him, all attempts were unsuccessful, leading to profound sorrow among church members and the wider community.
Timothy Hammajam, the District Secretary of the church, took to Facebook to mourn the loss, describing Rev. Vincent as “a visionary leader with focus.” He added, “KBC DCM 2003 graduating class will ever miss your elderly and prophetic words. May God comfort EYN and your family.”
Tributes poured in from church members and colleagues on social media, with many expressing their shock and grief. One member, Prince Malikson Papaman, shared a heartfelt tribute on his Facebook page, reflecting on the pastor's last sermon. “Just a few hours ago, he stood confidently on the altar… passionately shepherding his flock,”
Papaman wrote. “His powerful message still resonates in my mind, as he emphasized the importance of family unity in worship. Little did I know it would be his final sermon.”
Papaman lamented the loss of Rev. Vincent, stating that his departure leaves an “unfillable void.” He concluded with a heartfelt farewell, “Rest in eternal peace, Rev. Vincent Alaku. Until we meet again.”
As of this report, the cause of Pastor Vincent’s death has not been disclosed, leaving the community to grapple with the unexpected loss of a beloved leader and spiritual guide.
