Celebrity fashion designer Toyin Lawani recently shared her journey to recovery after undergoing six surgeries. Toyin took to her social media to post a video of herself receiving treatment for breathing difficulties and impaired speech.
In her heartfelt post, Toyin revealed that she had a lump in her vocal cord, which necessitated six surgeries. The procedures left her unable to speak for months. She explained, "Yesterday was a huge step to recovery for me. The last image was before my last surgery a few months ago. I have had 6 surgeries in total now and am currently in therapy. That was the lump I had growing between my vocal cords after my tracheotomy tube was removed from my throat. The tracheotomy left my vocal cord ruined, as it was emergency surgery to save me because I stopped breathing. I couldn’t speak for months."
Toyin expressed her deep gratitude to her medical team and family for their unwavering support. "A big thank you to my amazing team of doctors who have been working on me tirelessly for months to get me back on my feet, and thanks to my wonderful family for being by my side through this ordeal," she wrote.
She had previously announced that she would be taking two years off, as advised by her doctors, to fully recover her speaking and breathing abilities. "Most times, I stop breathing in my sleep, and my meds keep making me blow up. I still wake up paralyzed at times, still have a bad leg, and still have pains from the implants in my neck. But in all, I thank God," she shared.
Despite the challenges, Toyin remains optimistic. "It’s been a year today, and it can only be the glory of the Lord that I can hear myself speak and make sounds, and not struggle so much while I speak. The chest pain is less. It’s not perfect, but I’m grateful," she wrote, adding that she will start speech therapy next week.
Toyin also thanked her clients and fans for their support. "Thank God we don’t look like what we are going through. Starting my speech therapy next week, wish me luck. And a big thank you to my amazing clients and fans. God bless you all."
She concluded with a hopeful message about her return: "My thanksgiving and big comeback is coming. Help me thank God for this new phase. I’m on bended knees in His glory. #KingofallQueens aka King of Fashion is coming back soonest."
Toyin’s resilience and positive outlook serve as an inspiration to many, and her story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
