TikTok has removed over 2.1 million videos in Nigeria during the second quarter of 2024, citing violations of its community guidelines.
This action forms part of the platform’s efforts to strengthen content moderation and enhance user safety.
The company’s Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, released on Tuesday, revealed that the removed videos accounted for less than 1% of total uploads in Nigeria during this period.
The report highlighted that 99.1% of the removed content was proactively taken down before users reported it, with 90.7% removed within 24 hours.
TikTok emphasized its commitment to staying ahead of harmful content through the use of advanced technologies and its ongoing dedication to creating a safer platform for users.
The company also reiterated plans to continue investing in content moderation tools to better understand and address potential risks for its diverse global user base.
Globally, TikTok reported that over 178 million videos were removed by June 2024, with 144 million deletions facilitated by automated systems.
The platform boasted a global proactive detection rate of 98.2%, underscoring its growing efficiency in preventing harmful content from reaching users.
TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese-founded company, with ownership shared among global institutional investors, its founders, and employees.
