The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has issued a public apology after admitting he made an error regarding tithing.
In a previous sermon, Pastor Adeboye had stated that believers who fail to pay tithes would not make it to heaven, a declaration he now acknowledges was not biblically accurate.
Speaking during a sermon at the RCCG's ongoing annual national youth convention at the Redemption Camp, Pastor Adeboye clarified his earlier statement, stressing that the Bible does not support his previous pronouncement.
"That is not in the Bible. What the Bible says is to make peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see God," he explained. He noted that his former comment was a mistake and emphasized that believers should focus on living in peace and holiness to secure their place in heaven.
Pastor Adeboye highlighted that it is possible to be both right and wrong simultaneously, drawing a parallel to scientific theories that evolve over time. He also reiterated the importance of giving to God, citing examples of individuals who have been blessed through their generous offerings.
He shared the story of a man who started a business with $500 and, after making a vow to give more than the standard tithe of 10%, saw his turnover grow to $50 million in five years.
This example, Adeboye noted, inspired his own commitment to giving.
The revered pastor also urged believers to praise and give with vigor, noting how biblical figures like David and Solomon earned divine favor through their acts of worship and generosity.
Pastor Adeboye's apology has sparked widespread discussions within the Christian community, with many appreciating his humility in correcting his earlier statement.
