Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has raised concerns that telecommunications companies in Nigeria may be attempting to disrupt an imminent protest aimed at addressing economic challenges. In a statement released on Sunday, Adegboruwa highlighted a surge in complaints regarding network restrictions as the protest date approaches.Scheduled for August 1, the protest seeks to highlight pressing issues such as hunger, poverty, and dissatisfaction with current economic policies. Adegboruwa pointed out that there has been a noticeable increase in disconnections by telecom companies, often for seemingly trivial or unexplained reasons. The SAN criticized the timing of these disconnections, suggesting they might be strategically placed to undermine the protest's effectiveness and limit its reach. He emphasized that telecom contracts are legally binding and that subscribers should receive ample notice and clear explanations for any service interruptions.Adegboruwa has called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to investigate these disruptions and ensure that the rights of subscribers are upheld.
