The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a deadline of October 20 for both the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to submit documents regarding the cancellation of the 2025 AFCON qualifying Group D match between Libya and Nigeria. This match was originally set for October 15 but was canceled after the Nigerian team’s plane was diverted to Labraq Airport, where the players were allegedly held hostage for 18 hours without internet, food, or water.
Libya's Al-Ahrar Channel reported that Nasser Al-Suwaie, Secretary-General of the LFF, confirmed that the federation had appointed a lawyer to handle the situation and suggested potential collusion within CAF. He also emphasized that the LFF had no involvement in redirecting the plane, attributing the decision to the Libyan state, and stressed that Libya's sovereignty must be respected.
