Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has been elected as the Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum.
Governor Sanwo-Olu who was elected at the ongoing forum meeting will now lead the forum, representing the collective interests of the South West states.
It was gathered that all the six governors in the southwest adopted and unanimously elected Lagos Sanwo-Olu as chairman.
Governors from the southwest states convened at the Lagos House in Ikeja, Lagos State, for their zonal meeting earlier today.
The meeting is attended by Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti).
The closed-door meeting began around noon at Governor Sanwo-Olu’s office.
This gathering comes nearly four months after the death and burial of the last chairman of the forum, former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Since Akeredolu’s passing, the leadership of the forum has remained vacant.
Akeredolu was instrumental in the establishment and maintenance of Amotekun, a regional security outfit serving the Southwest states of Nigeria while leading the forum.
