The Nigerian Senate is currently conducting the screening of Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun for her confirmation as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). Justice Kekere-Ekun has been serving in this capacity in an acting role since August, following the retirement of former CJN, Olukayode Ariwoola.On Wednesday, as the screening session began, Justice Kekere-Ekun was accompanied by Justices from various courts as well as members of her family. This important event comes just 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm her as the substantive CJN.In a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu emphasized the significance of the nomination, stating, “I have the honour to forward the nomination of Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun CON for confirmation as Chief Justice of Nigeria."He further expressed his hope that the request would receive prompt consideration and approval by the Senate, closing the letter with, “Please accept, distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration and personal regards.”
