The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The decision followed the presentation of the screening report by Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’adua, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army.
According to Yar’adua, Oluyede demonstrated exceptional credentials, notable achievements, and a clear understanding of the responsibilities associated with the role. The committee's recommendation aligns with the Nigerian Constitution (Section 217, Subsection 2) and the Armed Forces Act (Section 18, Subsection 1).
Oluyede’s nomination had previously been cleared by the Department of State Services (DSS) and supported by his appropriate promotions and experience within the military. His confirmation by the Senate follows a similar endorsement by the House of Representatives, solidifying his position as the new Chief of Army Staff.
