Sheikh Alhaji Muyideen Ajani Bello, a respected Nigerian Islamic teacher and scholar, has passed away at the age of 84, leaving behind a profound legacy in the Muslim community.
His son, Katibi Abdul Basit Olanrewaju, widely known as Aponle Anobi, confirmed the news on December 6, 2024, through an emotional Instagram post, sharing a photo of the Sheikh accompanied by a sad emoji.
Renowned Islamic leader Taofeeq Akewugbagold also shared the news on Facebook, expressing his sorrow with a moving tribute.
“Today is one of my saddest days! My father and mentor has returned to his Creator. SULTONUL WAHIZEEN of Yorubaland, Sheikh Muyideen Ajani Bello, may Allah be pleased with your soul. Aljannah Firdaus for you. Our hearts are filled with grief, and our eyes with tears, but we will say only what pleases our Creator – Allah,” he wrote.
Born in 1940 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Sheikh Muyideen was widely admired for his clarity in preaching, vast knowledge of Islamic teachings, and his contributions to education.
His influence reached beyond Nigeria, touching lives across Africa, the UK, and the US.
Sheikh Bello dedicated his life to advancing Islamic education, playing a key role in establishing schools that blended religious studies with modern academic disciplines.
His mission was to provide balanced and comprehensive education for Muslim students.
Beginning his preaching career at the young age of 10 in Ibadan, Sheikh Muyideen later studied at I.D.C Primary School and Mahdul Arabiy, Elekuro, where he specialized in Arabic and Islamic studies.
Over the years, he served as a teacher and missioner, including a notable position with the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria.
Although the cause of his death remains unknown, tributes have poured in from around the world as his followers remember his impactful work and dedication to the faith.
The Muslim community mourns the loss of a revered leader whose teachings and legacy will continue to inspire generations.
