In a shocking turn of events, poultry farmer Bankole Henrich is mourning the loss of over 5,000 birds and the livelihoods of 50 workers after the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) demolished his poultry farm without prior notice. On Sunday, September 8, 2024, Bankole, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @henrich_banks, took to social media to share his devastation. He posted videos showing the aftermath of the demolition, with the remains of his once-thriving farm lying in ruins. In one of the videos, Bankole accused the FCDA of demolishing his farm in Lokogoma, Abuja, without any warning. He expressed disbelief and anger, stating that he had obtained all necessary legal documents, including a Certificate of Occupancy, before setting up the farm. This made the destruction all the more baffling and unjust."I am heartbroken and angry," Bankole wrote. "Yesterday, my N150 million investment in a poultry farm was destroyed by the Federal Capital Development Authority. No warning, no prior notice—just pure destruction. Over 5,000 birds are dead."Bankole, a former House of Representatives candidate under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State in 2023, raised questions about the government’s actions. He asked why he wasn't allowed to farm on his legally acquired property, despite having followed all legal procedures."How can this happen in a country where I followed every legal process? Let it be clear that all papers, including the Certificate of Occupancy, were obtained, yet some individuals in this government felt it was okay to destroy what I’ve worked for—an investment of a lifetime."Bankole highlighted the broader impact of the demolition, noting that it wasn’t just his loss. "Over 50 workers are now thrown out of jobs and businesses! In these hard times, families will now suffer because of the evil of some individuals operating under the guise of FCDA," he lamented. His plea was clear: "Tell me why I can’t farm on my private property. Why? Why?"
