The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has declared the recent local government elections, held by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), as illegal. APC chieftain Rabi’u Bichi highlighted that a Federal High Court ruling, led by Justice Simon Amobede, declared the elections null due to alleged bias by KANSIEC towards the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Furthermore, Bichi cited a recent court decision disqualifying all NNPP chairmanship candidates, solidifying APC's stance.
However, KANSIEC Chairman Prof. Sani Malumfashi defended the commission, stating that KANSIEC had a mandate from a Kano High Court ruling, which reaffirmed its authority to conduct the elections, as Justice Sanusi Ado Maaji had ruled in favor of KANSIEC’s jurisdiction. This has led to legal and political disputes between APC and KANSIEC regarding the legitimacy of the election.
