In a recent diplomatic incident, a group of Polish students and their teacher, who were arrested in Nigeria during protests against government policies and rising living costs, have been released. The news was confirmed by Poland's foreign minister on Wednesday. The seven individuals, Polish citizens from the University of Warsaw, were detained in the northwestern state of Kano earlier this month. Nigerian national security officials cited their "suspicious role" in the protests and alleged involvement in flying Russian flags as reasons for the arrest. However, Polish authorities clarified that the group had no direct involvement in the demonstrations and were simply caught up in the situation by chance. According to Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, the students and their teacher were "in the wrong place at the wrong time."On Wednesday, Sikorski announced their release in a video message posted on X (formerly Twitter). "I would like to confirm that the young people are already free, back in Kano, on campus, with passports," he said. "I think the young people received an accelerated lesson in African studies... I hope they will be back in the country soon."
