The authorities are still investigating the events surrounding the passing of the singer known as Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, on Thursday.
As a result, Mohbad's family and the of the people mentioned in the investigation into the unlawful embalming of his body after his death have been invited to participate in the ongoing inquiry.
According to the report, Boluwatife Adeyemo, also known as Darosha, who served as Mohbad's Personal Assistant, was questioned at the Zone 2 Police Headquarters. The interrogation took place in the presence of the deceased's father, Joseph, and mother, Abosede.
After questioning Darosha, the police requested that all individuals mentioned in his statement be brought in for additional interrogation.
Monisola Odumosu, the head of the family's legal team, communicated in a statement to our correspondent on Wednesday, revealing that the second interrogation session took place at the Zone 2 Police Headquarters in Lagos State on Tuesday.
Odumosu also mentioned that the police are actively working to uncover the identity of the "illegal mortician."
“The police will reveal to the public soon, who illegally embalmed the body of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
“The police stated they would work on their report and continue investigations which will be directed to the Legal Department of the force for a recommendation.
“The meeting was held at Zone 2 and present at the meeting were Mr. Joseph Aloba (Mohbad’s father), Boluwatife Adeyemi (aka Darosha), Adura Aloba (Mohbad’s younger brother), Mrs. Abosede Olumuyi (Mohbad’s mother) and Cynthia Omowunmi Aloba (Mohbad’s wife). Others include Iya Lolade and Samuel (Mr. Joseph Aloba’s witnesses) and lawyers to the parties,” Odumosu added.
At the instruction of their client, the family's legal team had previously petitioned the police, alleging that Boluwatife Adeyemo, the personal assistant to the late Mohbad, had embalmed the singer's body. This action was said to contravene Section 16 and 48 of the Coroner's System Law, 2007, which specifies offenses and penalties related to tampering with a deceased body.
After interrogating Darosha, the police have requested that all individuals mentioned in his statement be brought in for further questioning.
Shortly after Mohbad's passing, his cousin, Darosha, posted on his social media handle, daroshagram, stating, "...Regarding the salt, when my father passed away, salt was placed on his chest until we arrived. We were informed it was a local embalming method to preserve him until the entire family gathered. I did the same thing (for Mohbad) because many people were still coming to pay their respects before we departed for Ikorodu that night."
The post sparked controversy in both social media and legal circles, prompting the need to determine who embalmed the late singer without adhering to existing laws.
The legal team also mentioned that they were awaiting the police report, which would be provided once the police received legal advice from their legal department. At that point, they would be properly informed about which individuals are recommended to face prosecution.
Mohbad's father alleged that his son's body had already been embalmed and placed by the staircase when he arrived at the deceased's home on the day of his death.
He urged the police to intensify their investigation to uncover the cause of his son's death.
Mohbad passed away on September 12 at the age of 27, sparking controversy on social media regarding the circumstances surrounding his death. He was a former signee of Marlian Music, owned by Naira Marley, but left the label in February 2022.
On September 18, 2023, the Lagos State Police Command inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe Mohbad's death.
His death also led to the arrest of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, aka Sam Larry, among others.
Mohbad's body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, tweeted in September 2023 that an autopsy had been completed, and the police were "awaiting results."
Reports also revealed that the toxicology test conducted to determine the cause of Mohbad's death had been completed. The results had been sent to the pathologist who conducted the autopsy for analysis and interpretation.
