In a recent sermon, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), shared a profound message on the practice of tithing. He stated that giving 10 percent of one’s income as tithe to God is merely a starting point for Christians, describing it as a practice for beginners in the faith.
Pastor Adeboye emphasized that while tithing is a biblical principle, mature believers should aim to go beyond the minimum, giving more as an expression of their devotion and gratitude to God. He encouraged Christians to deepen their understanding of God's blessings and live lives of greater generosity.
Tithing, which is giving 10 percent of your income, is for beginners, Pastor Adeboye said. As you grow in your faith and understanding of God’s blessings, you realize that God deserves even more.
He urged believers to not limit themselves to just 10 percent but to be open to giving 20, 30, or even 40 percent, depending on how they have been blessed. According to him, a generous and sacrificial heart opens the door to more divine blessings.
Pastor Adeboye used an analogy from physics to drive home his point, saying that just as science has evolved in its understanding of light traveling in waves rather than just straight lines, so too should Christians grow in their understanding of giving.
It is wrong to limit yourself to 10% at a time when some of you should be paying 20%, 30%, or 40%, he said. Giving should be done sacrificially and even violently when necessary.
His message was clear the journey of faith requires believers to continuously seek deeper levels of sacrifice and commitment, moving beyond the basic requirements and embracing a life of abundant generosity.
