In a commendable move, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has launched an infrastructure upgrade at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko. This initiative aims to improve the facilities for corps members, ensuring a more comfortable and conducive environment during their service year.
Leading the Governor’s delegation was Pastor Joseph Ayoade Babalola, the Senior Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Lands, and Housing, who visited the camp to assess the current state of the facilities. During the visit, Pastor Babalola emphasized Governor Aiyedatiwa’s strong commitment to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme, hinting at plans to construct new blocks of hostels. He reassured the corps members that the renovation and restructuring efforts would be completed swiftly, in line with the Governor’s vision to make life easier for them.
In his address to the corps members, Pastor Babalola encouraged them to leave a positive legacy of good character at their places of primary assignment, and assured them that they would enjoy the warmth and hospitality of Ondo State’s citizens. He described the NYSC Scheme as vibrant and important, urging the corps members to embrace its core values and make a lasting impact in their host communities.
Drawing from personal experience, Pastor Babalola reflected on his own service year in Katsina State nearly 30 years ago, sharing how it shaped his life and contributed to his growth. He emphasized the lasting lessons learned through the NYSC program, underscoring its role in fostering national unity and personal development.
The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Sam Amaramiro Pepple, welcomed the Governor’s team and reminded the corps members of his earlier message about the Governor’s commitment to upgrading camp facilities. He expressed deep gratitude to Governor Aiyedatiwa for fulfilling his promise, stating that future corps members would continue to benefit from the Governor’s efforts and remember his good works.
During the visit, the team inspected various parts of the camp, identifying dilapidated structures and facilities that require either a complete overhaul or significant upgrades.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s initiative marks a positive step toward enhancing the overall experience for NYSC members in Ondo State, ensuring that they serve in an environment that promotes both comfort and productivity. This effort underscores the Governor’s dedication to youth development and national service.
