Edo State Governor-Elect, Monday Okpebholo, has raised serious allegations against officials of the outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki administration. Okpebholo claims that there has been widespread looting of government funds and properties, including vehicles, furniture, and household items, by state officials. He has called for an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) into these allegations.
In addition to the looting claims, Okpebholo also urged banks to stop granting loans to the Edo State government during the transition period, warning of potential consequences for unethical financial dealings. He emphasized that his administration would adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption.
In response, the Edo State government, through its Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, dismissed the allegations as false, calling them an attempt to create confusion. Osagie stressed that there can only be one governor at a time and urged the incoming administration to wait until the official handover on November 12 before taking action.
