Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has firmly dismissed the death rumours circulating on social media, assuring the public that he is alive and well.
The former leader expressed his shock and disappointment after waking up to the false reports, which had deeply upset him.
Obasanjo addressed the issue during the commissioning of the Old-Garage-Oke-Fia-Lameco road in Osogbo, Osun State, an event attended by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Speaking in Yoruba, he explained, "I heard the rumour that I was dead. I saw it on social media. I quickly told my children and relations that it was not true and that I was alive."
He condemned the harmful nature of the rumour, adding, "Those who want me dead, that is their wish, but God still keeps me alive. Why would anyone wish me dead? Those who harbour such thoughts will not escape tragedy themselves."
Obasanjo also criticized the misuse of technology, calling the spread of such baseless claims "unacceptable" and a disturbance to public peace.
