Former Senator Ishaku Abbo recently proposed a plan aimed at reducing Nigeria's petrol prices to N480 per litre by early 2025, significantly lower than the current average price of over N1000 per litre. This initiative, submitted to President Bola Tinubu, could provide relief to Nigerians who have been facing high living costs since the removal of the fuel subsidy. According to Abbo, the proposal's details are structured to achieve these reductions by February if approved.
In addition to discussing fuel costs, Abbo addressed the frequent power outages in northern Nigeria, specifically noting the recent three-week blackout after a national grid collapse. He criticized the Adamawa State government for not investing in infrastructure projects like the Kiri Dam, which he argued could generate 35 megawatts of electricity for the region. Abbo urged Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to focus on impactful projects for rural communities instead of urban-centric developments like flyovers.
Abbo, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), lost his Senate seat in 2023 following a court ruling that found non-compliance with the Electoral Act in his election.
