Renowned Nollywood actress and mother of four, Mercy Johnson Okojie, has opened up about a defining moment in her relationship with her husband.
She shared how her willingness to meet him without financial demands left a lasting impression, marking the beginning of their journey together.
Speaking on the challenges of finding genuine love in today’s society, the actress highlighted the monetization of relationships, saying, "In this generation of Nigeria and some parts of Africa, it's very hard to find love.
Love has become so hard to find because everything has been monetized. The subconscious mind is so focused on money that we have gotten to a point where we hardly identify reality."
Reflecting on her own experience, Mercy Johnson Okojie revealed that her husband was struck by her approach during their early interactions.
Unlike others he had encountered, she did not ask for transport fare, flight tickets, or any form of financial assistance before their first meeting.
"My husband marvelled at me because he is used to ladies demanding TP, flight tickets, or some sort of billing way back before an open date or sit-out," she said. "But in my case, it was different. I never asked for TP or initiated a form of billing because I kept an open mind to meet with the prospect of creating value and respect for myself as a woman."
The actress’s story underscores her belief in mutual respect and authenticity in relationships, advocating for a shift from materialistic tendencies toward building meaningful connections.
Mercy Johnson Okojie is celebrated for her roles in Nollywood and for her outspoken stance on issues affecting women and families.
Her reflections offer insight into her values and the principles that have guided her personal life.
