Nigeria and the United States have collaborated to establish a digitized Early Warning Situation Room (EWSR) for early conflict resolution. Launched by Nigeria’s Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) alongside the Peace Action for Rapid Transformative Nigerian Early Response (PARTNER) initiative, this facility is supported by USAID and other peace-building organizations, including Mercy Corps Nigeria and the West African Network for Peace-building.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, represented by his Media Adviser, AbdulKadir Alkasim, highlighted the EWSR's role in expediting conflict reports to appropriate response agencies and groups, blending security and non-security responses. This system aims to encourage community cohesion and local peace-building efforts. Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, IPCR’s Director-General, noted that the EWSR had already helped reduce conflict among herders and farmers in nine states, promoting security and local ownership of the peace-building process.
Angela Martin, USAID Nigeria’s Director of Peace and Development, underscored the U.S.'s commitment to enhancing conflict resilience through this partnership. Similarly, Major General Taiwo Adedoja, Commandant at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, called for collaborative efforts to combat violent extremism.
The EWSR is expected to leverage technology and data-driven insights to predict and mitigate conflicts, reflecting the collaborative effort between local and international bodies to foster peace and stability in Nigeria.
