The Niger State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has lauded Governor Muhammed Umaru Bago for his commitment to paying gratuities to retirees in the state. This commendation was made by the NUP Chairman, Comrade Ishaku Ndagi, during the inauguration of the Union’s media team at the Pensioners' House in Minna.
Comrade Ndagi expressed his appreciation, noting that the payment of gratuities has brought relief and smiles to the faces of many pensioners who had waited for several years. He praised the governor for fulfilling his promises, saying that the gesture demonstrates the administration’s dedication to the welfare of the state’s senior citizens.
In his address, Ndagi also thanked pensioners for their patience and understanding throughout the process, acknowledging their support of the Union’s leadership and the state government. He urged the Niger State government to include pensioners in any salary increments, particularly in line with the newly approved minimum wage of ₦70,000.
The event also marked the inauguration of the Union’s 13 member media team, which has been tasked with liaising with the Union’s executives to publicize its activities and address pressing concerns raised by pensioners. According to Ndagi, the media team will serve as a vital link between pensioners, the Union, and the government. Its role will include tackling issues that require immediate attention and ensuring transparency in the Union's activities.
Comrade Ndagi emphasized that the media team will be instrumental in communicating the Union's challenges to the government while keeping the retirees informed to prevent rumors and speculations. Additionally, the team will promote programs and actions beneficial to both pensioners and the government.
The newly inaugurated media team is led by the Union’s Public Relations Officer, Comrade Mohammed Erena, with Yahaya Musbau as the Secretary and Mohammed Sule as the Assistant Secretary.
Through this new development, the Niger State chapter of the NUP is set to enhance communication and further advocate for the well-being of pensioners, ensuring their concerns are heard and addressed promptly.
