The tragic boat mishap in Niger State has claimed the lives of 42 people, with six more bodies recovered between Thursday evening and Friday morning. The incident involved a boat carrying around 300 people, most of whom were traveling for a Mawlid celebration in Gbajibo, Mokwa Local Government Area. Rescue efforts led by the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) are still ongoing to search for additional victims. This incident is part of a continuing pattern of boat accidents in Nigeria, often linked to overloading and poor safety measures.
