The Federal Government investigative panel, formed to examine the controversy surrounding Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, and his prison sentence, has presented its initial findings. The panel, chaired by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalena Ajani, investigated claims that Bobrisky bribed officials and was allowed to serve his sentence outside of prison.
Despite allegations, the panel found no evidence suggesting Bobrisky slept outside prison during his six-month sentence from April 12 to August 5, 2024. However, it confirmed that he received special privileges while in custody, such as a furnished cell, access to a fridge, television, and a humidifier. He was also allowed visits from family and friends, had self-feeding privileges, and used inmates as errand runners.
The panel raised concerns about possible corruption and recommended clearer guidelines to address future cases involving inmates of different socio-economic backgrounds. Further investigation into whether Bobrisky’s privileges were financially motivated is ongoing.
