Former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has expressed dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu's recent cabinet reshuffle, calling it uninspiring and politically motivated. In an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” Shittu criticized the changes, which involved dismissing five ministers, redeploying ten, and nominating seven new ministers, as prioritizing political factors over competence. He doubted whether the reshuffle would improve governance or performance, suggesting that it was more of a political move to appease citizens rather than a merit-based process.
Shittu, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, also emphasized the importance of appointing ministers with expertise relevant to their portfolios. He cited the example of an engineer heading the Ministry of Works, arguing that specialized knowledge significantly impacts performance. Shittu urged thorough Senate screening of the new nominees, noting that Nigerians lack the patience for ministers who might need time to adjust to their roles.
