The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed 14 new charges against former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and his Commissioner of Finance, Ademola Banu, for allegedly mismanaging public funds amounting to ₦5.78 billion. The charges, filed in a Kwara State High Court, include claims of diversion of funds meant for state projects, security, and salaries of teachers under the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). The case had earlier been moved from a Federal High Court due to the transfer of the previous trial judge.
Ahmed and Banu pleaded not guilty to all charges. The court granted them bail set at ₦100 million each with two sureties. The trial is scheduled to continue in December 2024.
