Edo State Governor-Elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has officially appointed Fred Itua as his Chief Press Secretary, marking the first appointment in his administration. Itua, an experienced journalist and former Assistant Political Editor at The Sun newspaper, will begin his role on November 12, 2024, the same day Okpebholo is set to be inaugurated as governor.
Meanwhile, tensions have arisen between the outgoing governor, Godwin Obaseki, and the APC transition team. The APC claims that Obaseki, who is concluding his two terms, was not invited to the inauguration due to attempts to obstruct the transition process. Obaseki, in response, alleged that the inauguration would cost between ₦2 billion and ₦5 billion, suggesting misuse of state funds and raising concerns over financial transparency. However, the APC transition committee dismissed these claims, arguing that Obaseki's actions were attempts to hinder a smooth transition.
