Angela Okorie, a prominent figure in the Nollywood film industry and a mother of one, shared a distressing incident from her childhood that instilled a lasting distrust of men.
In a candid discussion, Angela recounted an unsettling experience with a relative at the age of 12 that profoundly affected her perception of men. “From that moment, I ceased to trust men,” she stated.
She described how, during a visit from her uncle, a family member she had always regarded as trustworthy, she innocently sat on his lap. However, when she stood up, she became aware of something inappropriate.
While her mother was occupied in the kitchen, Angela had been sitting with her uncle in the living room.
“I thought nothing of it at the time, but as I got up to answer my mother’s call, I felt something unusual and uncomfortable. He quickly repositioned himself, leaving me in shock,” she recounted.
Angela urged Nigerian parents, particularly mothers, to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting their children.
“Dear mothers, please keep a close watch on your children—both daughters and sons. Some individuals who present themselves as uncles may not have good intentions,” she cautioned.
Her narrative serves as a vital reminder for parents to prioritize their children's safety and foster a culture of awareness within Nigerian households.
Angela’s bravery in sharing her story is already initiating crucial discussions regarding child protection in society.
