Popular Nigerian singer Skales recently took to social media to air his grievances about his experiences with the Nigerian Police.
In a strongly-worded tweet, Skales criticized what he described as continuous harassment and exploitation by officers in Lagos, especially along Orchid Road, where he claims officers routinely stop and extort drivers, often without just cause.
"My hate for the Nigerian police still stands," Skales began in his post, which was shared widely across social media.
He recounted instances where officers appeared to unfairly target young people driving luxury vehicles, particularly Mercedes-Benz cars, and subjected them to questioning, often under the pretense of law enforcement but ending with demands for bribes.
"They just mount for Orchid Road shamelessly stressing youths to end up begging for money," he added, expressing frustration over the lack of integrity he perceives among some officers.
The singer called for a review of the policing policies, particularly the high concentration of checkpoints within short distances.
"Why do you have like all your policemen on Orchid Road?" he questioned, urging authorities to examine whether these measures were necessary or effective.
Skales concluded with a warning: "Now I go just dey wear camera for body they post everything online," suggesting that he may resort to recording his interactions with police officers to expose inappropriate behavior.
His tweets have sparked a conversation online, with many Nigerians sharing similar experiences and calling for accountability within the police force.
