The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Ondo State governorship election held on Saturday.
Aiyedatiwa emerged victorious after securing the highest number of votes in all 18 local government areas across the state.
Announcing the results in Akure, INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Akinwumi Olayemi Durotimi, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, confirmed that Aiyedatiwa garnered a total of 366,781 votes.
His closest rival, Ajayi Agboola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), secured 117,845 votes.
Professor Durotimi declared, “Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of lawful votes cast, is hereby returned elected.”
Aiyedatiwa, who succeeded the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on December 27, 2023, hails from the southern senatorial district of the state, specifically from Ilaje Local Government Area.
His victory solidifies the APC's stronghold in Ondo as he prepares to continue the administration's agenda in the state.
