Buba Galadima, a prominent member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and political associate of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has refuted claims that Kwankwaso, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, would consider becoming a running mate to Peter Obi, the former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate.
In a statement reported by Naija News, Galadima clarified that recent media interpretations of Kwankwaso’s remarks in an interview were inaccurate.
He stressed that Kwankwaso has no intentions of playing a secondary role in the 2027 presidential race, firmly stating that the senator is fully prepared to lead the nation if elected.
“Kwankwaso is far ahead of Peter Obi in political and intellectual capacity,” Galadima said, dismissing any speculation that Kwankwaso would serve as Obi’s running mate. He added that such a suggestion would only relegate Kwankwaso to the background, which does not reflect his ambitions or qualifications.
Galadima expressed disappointment with media outlets that misinterpreted Kwankwaso’s interview, reiterating that the NNPP presidential flagbearer has both the political acumen and leadership skills necessary to address Nigeria's challenges.
Furthermore, Galadima suggested that Peter Obi should consider joining the Kwankwasiyya Movement, led by Kwankwaso, as a way of contributing to the liberation of Nigeria from ineffective leadership.
The political landscape continues to heat up as candidates position themselves for the 2027 presidential election, with Kwankwaso making it clear that he intends to be a frontrunner, not a deputy.
