Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in Nigeria's 2023 election, has responded to allegations involving his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, in funding his campaign. This statement follows Okowa's recent arrest over alleged misappropriation of around N1.3 trillion from Delta State's derivation funds between 2015 and 2023.
Atiku’s adviser on broadcast media, Abdul Rasheeth, clarified that Okowa did not contribute financially to Atiku’s campaign. Rasheeth emphasized that Atiku has historically funded his campaigns independently and does not rely on his running mates for financial support. He added that any claims suggesting otherwise are baseless and aimed at tarnishing Atiku’s reputation amid political controversies surrounding Okowa's arrest.
