Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has addressed rumors of a rift between himself and Rabiu Kwankwaso, his political mentor and key figure in the Kwankwasiyya movement. Reports suggested that Yusuf was being urged to distance himself from Kwankwaso's influence and govern more independently. However, during an interview at the Government House, Yusuf dismissed these rumors, emphasizing his unwavering loyalty to Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya ideology.
Yusuf condemned the “Abba Tsaya Da Kafarka” (Stand on Your Own Feet, Abba) campaign, which implies he should break free from Kwankwaso’s influence, calling it an insult. He stated that such rumors were baseless and a personal affront, affirming his dedication to the core principles of Kwankwasiyya—especially education and human capital development.
