In a surprising move, popular Islamic singer Ibraheem Labaeka has announced his resignation from his position as Special Assistant to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. The resignation, effective September 12, 2024, has garnered significant attention, especially after the letter detailing his reasons started trending on social media. In his resignation letter, Labaeka explained that he could no longer continue in a role where his contributions were minimal, if not entirely absent. He expressed discomfort with the fact that he was being paid for doing very little, stating, "My conscience does not allow me to stay in a job where my contributions are not necessary."The singer's message reflected a deep commitment to his principles, as he highlighted his belief in living a purposeful life. "I believe in being purposeful and impactful in whatever I do, and unfortunately, this position did not align with my principles," he added.Labaeka also expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for the opportunity to serve in his administration but stressed that he could not continue to receive a salary for a job that did not require his active involvement. “Since my appointment is based on public trust, I cannot continue to break that trust by taking a salary for doing nothing,” he said.
