Nigerian musician Panshak Zamani, better known as Ice Prince, has shared the difficulties he faced growing up as an orphan and how it impacted his educational journey.
In a recent appearance on the Listen podcast, the "Aboki" singer revealed that he lost his father at the age of 11 and his mother at 21, leaving him without family support.
He explained that his financial struggles led to him missing out on a university admission due to his inability to raise N20,000 on time.
“I didn’t have a mother or father. I’m the only child. It was really hard. My father passed away when I was 11, and my mother died when I was around 21 or 22. I also had a large family that depended on me,” Ice Prince said.
The rapper also recounted how he worked several low-paying jobs to support himself but often had to stay home for weeks due to unpaid school fees.
“I want people to look at my story and say if I can make it, then there’s no excuse for anyone to fail. I was the guy who spent at least three weeks at home every term because of school fees. I didn’t go to the University because of N20,000. I had two weeks to pay the fees, but I couldn’t gather the money in time, which is why I lost the admission,” he explained.
Despite the hardships, Ice Prince credited his success to his faith in God, pointing out that he had no extended family or godparents to support him.
He encouraged others to stay determined and never give up, using his personal journey as a source of motivation for anyone facing similar obstacles.
Ice Prince’s story stands as a testament to resilience, proving that perseverance and faith can help overcome even the toughest challenges.
