The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed his openness to serving as the vice-presidential candidate to Peter Obi of the Labour Party in the 2027 elections.
However, Kwankwaso emphasized that his willingness to deputize Obi is contingent upon the fulfillment of certain conditions.
In a viral video clip shared on the X platform, the former governor of Kano State, speaking in Hausa, revealed that while he sees himself as more politically experienced than Obi, he is ready to explore the possibility of a partnership if mutual trust and understanding can be established.
“I’m politically bigger than Peter Obi, I’m his elder brother, and I hold a PhD. I performed better than him as a governor in my state,” Kwankwaso said.
However, he added, “I have no problem with deputizing Peter Obi, but only if certain conditions are met. We are open to dialogue, but trust is key.”
Kwankwaso's statement comes as discussions about alliances for the 2027 elections intensify.
In the 2023 presidential elections, Peter Obi secured a strong showing, winning 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory, amassing over six million votes.
Meanwhile, Kwankwaso dominated in Kano State, winning 38 out of 44 local government areas with nearly 1.5 million votes.
The potential collaboration between Kwankwaso and Obi could significantly reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
