Nollywood actor Stephen Alajemba, popularly known as Uwaezuoke, has stirred controversy with his recent remarks advocating for polygamy.
In an interview with Ugwumba TV, the actor stated that it is a sin for men to have fewer than three wives, arguing that such a lifestyle offers greater safety and harmony in marriage.
Uwaezuoke claimed that marrying only one or two wives puts a man at risk, suggesting that smaller households might lead to dangerous conspiracies. He elaborated on his beliefs, saying:
“It’s a sin to marry one or two wives. But if you marry three or four, you will be free from sin. If you marry one wife, your life is at risk. The safety of the director is in the hands of the security. If you marry two wives, they will conspire to poison you. But if you marry three or more wives, they will all be on their own, and you will only be providing for them. You will be taking turns with their meals and bedrooms.”
The actor’s remarks have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with some Nigerians criticizing his stance while others argue it reflects traditional cultural practices in some parts of the country.
Uwaezuoke, known for his comedic roles in Nollywood films, has previously voiced opinions on societal issues, often sparking lively discussions.
