Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked the mother and sister of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area on Thursday. The victims, Jumai Kefas and her daughter, Atsi Kefas, were traveling when the attack occurred.
The council chairman of Wukari, Dauda Samaila Agbu, confirmed the incident, expressing sadness and describing it as "deeply troubling." Atsi Kefas sustained a gunshot wound and received initial treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari. She was later airlifted to Abuja for advanced medical care after her condition stabilized.
The Taraba State Police Command, represented by Public Relations Officer Usman Abdullahi, also confirmed the attack. While describing it as an armed robbery, the police have not confirmed the victims’ familial connection to the governor. Efforts are reportedly ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
