Reports confirm that outgoing Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki was seen in Lagos on Sunday, countering claims that he had fled Nigeria. Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor-elect, alleged that Obaseki left Edo State through land borders after vacating the Government House and abandoning his duties ahead of his term's end. Okpebholo further claimed that Obaseki disguised himself to avoid detection.
Obaseki’s spokesperson has not responded to these accusations, but sources confirmed his presence in Lagos, refuting the escape allegations. Okpebholo, set to be sworn in on Tuesday, also mentioned potential actions from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) targeting Obaseki after his immunity expires.
