The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended four suspects accused of criminal conspiracy, forgery of official documents, job racketeering, impersonation, and defrauding individuals under false pretenses.
The suspects—Khuzaifa Tafida, Zakari Abdullahi, Abdullahi Baba, and Adeyemo Morufu—were detained by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Investigation Squad.
They are alleged members of a syndicate specializing in forging classified government documents to deceive victims and extort money by promising employment in Federal Government agencies, including the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil.
According to a statement by the police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, the suspects forged documents resembling those from the Office of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the State House, Abuja.
These documents were presented to the IGP’s office as recommendations for the 2022 Nigeria Police Special Recruitment exercise.
The investigation, prompted by a petition from the Special Assistant to the President, led to the arrest of Tafida and Abdullahi.
Further inquiries uncovered the involvement of the other suspects. The suspects confessed to forging multiple government documents to defraud victims.
Police recovered forged documents, official stamps, N1.7 million in cash, and other incriminating items.
The police urged the public to avoid dealing with individuals promising unofficial recruitment or assistance outside due process.
