In the early hours of Friday morning, tragedy struck at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba, Lagos. A fire broke out around 2:20 a.m., wreaking havoc on part of the two-winged, three-story building, which houses 16 two-bedroom flats.According to reports, the fire primarily affected Flat 5 in Block 21, where one of the two-bedroom apartments was severely damaged. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) conducted a preliminary investigation, which revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical surge in the children’s bedroom.Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, confirmed that the fire completely destroyed the children’s room, resulting in the loss of properties worth millions of naira. He praised the swift and coordinated response of emergency teams, including LASEMA’s LRT, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, who worked together to contain and extinguish the fire quickly.“Fortunately, there was no loss of life or injuries sustained in the incident,” Oke-Osanyitolu stated. He also mentioned that the victims and other residents were educated on the proper use of electrical appliances to prevent future incidents.As of 5:00 a.m., firefighters, LASEMA personnel, and Nigerian police officers were still on the scene, ensuring the situation was fully brought under control.
